CPS Sketch # 187 - Flourishes, LLC

Hello!  It's time for a CPS sketch project again.  This week's sketch is sponsored by Flourishes, LLC.  Here's my take on the sketch...

Waterlily

I stamped the lily directly on the central circle panel and lightly colored with pink.  I used a sponge to ink over the lily with Broken China Distress ink to give the illusion of water.  Stamping the lily again on a piece of cardstock, I colored in detail with Copic markers and carefully trimmed out with precision scissors.  I also stamped one of the lily pads, colored with Copics and trimmed from cardstock.  I adhered it over the center waterlily to peak out of the bottom.  This trimmed waterlily was popped up with dimensional tape over the central image.

Tip: To give added dimension, gently bend the tips of the flower upward from the surface of the card.

Irises

I had to share the cards I created for my mom, grandma and sister-in-law for their Mother's Day. I was so excited a couple of weeks ago to receive a set from Flourishes, called Siberian Iris. It's so amazingly detailed!


I knew I'd use it to make these cards!

Mom's Card: I kept this a full panel on the front of the card with distressed edges and random stitching for a main focal point to the card.

Grandma's card: I used my Nestabilities to cut out the iris. I love the effect of the Vintage Violet scallops around the iris... reminds me of a flower in and of itself.

Sandy's card: A clear card is trendy and fresh... perfect for Sandy who is the best ever! If I could have picked a sister for myself, I would have picked her!
I used Adirondack inks to watercolor the iris. The colors remain very vibrant, which is exactly how wonderful iris are in real life - and reminds me of the irises that my grandma had growing in her backyard in their home at Aintree. I wanted to capture that on paper. I added a bit of slate around the edges to give shadow and depth.

Am I the only one shocked that the year is whizzing by us? I can't believe that it's already March!!! I feel like we just put away the Christmas tree.

But, as it's already March, my time as a guest designer with Flourishes, LLC has come to an end. I enjoyed it immensely! The team of owners, designers and artists are amazing... and I'm glad to have been counted amongst their numbers, even for a few months.

So... this card is for the Flourishes team. Thank you.

Aces Up!

I had to!!! I just had to make a deck of cards from the Harlequin & Accessories set by Flourishes LLC. This card was super fast too.

I made small rectangles, rounded the corners and stamped the suits from the Accessories part of Harlequin & Accessories. The letter was from my very lonely (but much loved - and GREATLY missed) Karen Foster Classis snap stamps. WHY, oh WHY did they quit making these gems?

OK... I'm back...

The sentiment is from the Mardi Gras set... and reminded me of something I'd link to a casino night. The last little bit was some striped red May Arts grosgrain ribbon. My husband loves to play poker, so I may give this to him. Super simple, but fun, right?

Laissez Les Bon Temps Rouler!

Can you believe that Mardi Gras is just around the corner? Easter is on the calendar early this year... and I knew that. I'm just amazed at how fast the year is marching along!

And speaking of marching, have you ever seen a parade in New Orleans? I have. In fact, it was in early May (well after Easter). I was in New Orleans (pre-Katrina) on business and found that traffic was stopped for some reason. It was a parade. Very random... for no other reason than to celebrate a sunny day in Spring. That was a true example of "joie de vivre" - Joy of Life!


Here's a card I created to herald Mardi Gras:

I stamped the new Flourishes Harlequin and Accessories and the Mardi Gras sets. I used the traditional colors of Mardi Gras:

* Purple (for Justice) - Elegant Eggplant

* Gold (for Power) - Summer Sun

* Green (for Faith) - Garden Green

Of course, the phrase "Laissez Les Bon Temps Rouler" means Let the Good Times Roll... what else would you expect to say when your leading a parade?

Love... texture

I forgot to post this last week, so I'll share today. The stamp set is Lace Heart by Flourishes and is so elegant.

Love Textures:

The card base is a prefolded notecard that has a red edging. I love using notecards for a quick project, because the embellishments or image take center stage! The center matte is Basic Grey Scarlet Letter. What you can't tell from the picture is that I've added crystal effects to all the dots of the designer paper for added dimension.

The central image is the sentiment "Love" from the Lace Hearts set. I stamped it on a classic oval cut from my Nestabilities and layered on a scalloped oval (purchased from Ellen Huston, LLC). I stamped "Love" with an essential glue pad and added black Fun Flock. I usually have a tough time with this stuff... I admit it. I think it's because I'm in such a hurry that the glue and flock don't have enough time to dry properly. I placed my glue-y sentiment in a coffee filter, liberally applied flock and wrapped the whole thing up to dry overnight. Success! And I only have flocking over half my stamping area!!!

I added a bit of red to the heart of the "L" with a Copic marker, an onyx crystal and a small rhinestone to the main image. The ribbon is doubled (grey taffeta May Arts ribbon and wide red grosgrain). It's held in place with a bar staple to complete the card.

It's a deceptively simple design - with lots of texture.

Je t'aime

I took 8 years of French (High School and College). My conversational French is not so good... I think it's not taught well in school, personally. I've been to Paris (Oct 2006) and loved every minute of it. I also learned more in how to speak French that one week than in a whole semester of lessons. Total immersion makes a big difference!

Most people know what Je t'aime means... I love you. I thought it was a perfect focal point for this project.

The frame was covered in Basic Grey designer paper, Periphery, with the edges distressed with vanilla acrylic paint. The Prima matches much more closely than this picture depicts. The stamped portion of this project is from Flourishes stamp set, Open to Love. It was such a simple project... but the emphasis remains with the words - I love you.

It's as simple as that. What more could you want?

Showing Flourishes Some LOVE

Flourishes, LLC recently released a love set that is truly beautiful. It's called Lace Heart.

I Love Thee card:

I decided to make a card that is a bit more on the masculine side (the designer paper is from a stack of Wild Asparagus that I'd bought at Hobby Lobby - isn't it rich?). The card base is Bordering Blue, with panels of the designer paper. The lace heart was stamped in White Stazon ink on a sheet of acetate (which isn't apparent in my picture). Other pictures and angles of this showed a flash or my reflection, so this was all I could use for this post. LOL!

The frame to my sentiment is a piece of Ranger Grungeboard (swirls), painted with white acrylic paint. Boy, do I love this stuff! It's flexible chipboard, even after it's inked or painted. I love that!!! Rather than pierce the cardstock with brads, I glued it to the card with glue dots and covered the holes in the frame with Silver Bell Dew Drops. They really match the grey-blue hue of the cardstocks.

The sentiment is part of the main text of the set - "How do I love thee? Let me count the ways." I thought the traditional text was SO endearing.

Melancholy Blue

Oh to be young and in love... hmmm... Something about those first days of tenderness. I thought I'd share this card with you about this sweet girl - with the image from a new Flourishes set. The set is called Open to Love.

Melancholy BlueI used the pretty young girl from the set and stamped her on white cardstock. I stamped her on a scrap of designer paper from the Basic Grey Lilykate line and paper pieced to give her a pretty top. I stamped the arch on some Lilykate paper and placed my girl in between the scallop paper and arch to give the illusion of a girl leaning against the windowsill, waiting for her boy.

Some additional details are the stitching around the designer paper panel, custom colored dew drops, a neutral button and a couple of custom paper buttons (cardstock covered in Ranger Glossy Accents).

I don't know about you but I hope her prince comes home soon!

Flourishes, LLC

I am SO thrilled to have been asked to be a part of Flourishes Invitational Guest Designer program! I'll be working with them December through February and I understand that a new designer will be added each month. What an honor!

New sets are pending release on December 11th, so I'd like to share with you my first project.

The set is called Love Nest and is darling.

I had been given a large bag of these clear plastic boxes by my Grandma about a week ago. I think they were media cases originally. Being the stamping / collecting type person that I am, I knew I'd NEED them and brought them home to add to my hoard... I mean stash... I mean alterable collection. LOL! I added a bit of paper to the front of the case, inside the unique shape. I added the sentiment (also from this set) inside some WeR Precious Metals hardware. I love the fact that the case is frosted plastic, so I can see a hint of the cards inside.

I created three unique note cards (4" squares) for the gift set, using pink cardstock, Phoebe Basic Grey designer paper, more hardware and matching May Arts grosgrain ribbons. I kept each simple, without a sentiment on the outside, so someone can write their own love note.
