Tutorials at CHF - Vintage Vellum

For the last couple of months, I've been creating some tutorials for Cornish Heritage Farms' forum.  One of the things I've been most proud of is the level of education about products and projects available to customers.  And now I'm trying to continue to the legacy...



I thought I'd post some of these projects on my blog and post back to the forum for more details on the "how-to".  And I've been doing this for a bit, so I'll slowly make my way through the list of topics we've covered recently.



Vintage Vellum Technique:



Sisters:

CHF became known for a unique line-art offering with the release of the Thomas Kinkade Series.  The exquisite detail, transformed from vibrantly painted portraits, is like nothing else in the industry.  As a recent release of a similar style was introduced in the Sandra Kuck Series, I created this tutorial to give a simple and effective way of coloring detailed line art images.



Using vellum and copic markers, a soft look can be achieved... and it's simple.

On-line Classes at CHF

I'm so excited about a new line of weekly events at Cornish Heritage Farms.  Starting on July 22nd, CHF will have on-line classes, featuring Christmas projects by each Designer.  The supply list and a brief overview of the project will be posted in advance so everyone has ample time to get product.  The class will post at 6 pm EST and the Designers will be around to chat, answer questions and offer suggestions on their date.

CHF Challenge #15 - Krylon Leafing Pens

It's Monday again and the challenge is ON!  This week our challenge was to use Krylon Leafing pens.  Julia Stainton has written a fabulous overview on the product in the CHF Forums --> HERE.  We'd love it if you could join us.  Our weekly challenges are posted on the forum too.



Fall Harvest



Copper has that warm glow to it... and I tend to think Autumn.  I grabbed my "All Things Fall" set (The Rummage Bin) and got leafing!

To make my Fall Harvest sign stand out, I took a chipboard coaster and cut it out with my Long Rectangle Nestabilities.  I painted it with Peeled Paint Crackle paint by Ranger and let it dry.  I used the Copper leafing pen on the edges.  It's also hard to see in the picture, but I added Copper leafing to a few of the dots in the lower right hand side.



A few other details on the card:

-Distressed edges and Vintage Photo ink to give an aged look.

-The apple was stamped with two colors.  To do this with standard ink pads, I inked the image with Peeled Paint and used a Q-tip to add the Espresso.

-The apple was trimmed out and popped up on dimensional tape.  I added Glossy Accents on the image for a laquered look.

Happy 4th of July!

Forth of July has always been a fun holiday for us.  We get together and BBQ with the family!  Fireworks and watermelon seem to go hand in hand!

Note: I stamped the largest star (from Supah Star) on the back of the Twilight Dark cardstock and then trimmed. I didn't want the line on the paper, rather having it look like a die-cut.

CHF Challenge #14 - Green Challenge

It has been AGES since I've been able to join in the weekly blog challenges at Cornish Heritage Farms.  This week our challenge is all about green... Going Green, that is.  I haven't met a single stamper that doesn't fall into this category... saving little bits and bobs, knowing that "one day" that might come in handy.



So, recycle an object and incorporate it into a project.  Join us in the CHF Forum --> HERE for more details and inspiration.



There's plenty of things of things you could do to recycle... use an old tin to make home decor, filler paper / packaging materials to make custom wrapping paper, or an empty jelly jar to etch for a gorgeous vase.

My project this week was really fun.  I opted to use the leg / stabilizer on an old picture frame to make a men's tie.  I'd pulled it off of a frame to make the frame flush with the wall, so it would hang properly.  I saved them because I just KNEW I'd need them one day!



I used a blunt edge scissors (one that is fairly dull anyway) to even off the top edge where it was attached to the frame base.  Then, I ran the edge of my black ink pad to the edges so it would be sharp... this guy's a snazzy dresser, you know!

And of course, the dress shirt has a pocket, which I added a hankie that completes the sentiment.  Very fun!  And yes... I know this is a heavy card with the weight of the frame piece, but I know of at least four special guys that I can hand deliver this to...  which saves me postage, gasoline (for me and the mail carrier), fuel emissions... WOW!

Questions on Scrapblocks™

A quick update on Scrapblocks™ as I'd had a couple of questions about them...

1. Scrapblocks™ can be purchased only from Cornish Heritage Farms.  There were five designs in the original release and planned releases of 2 more each month.  The next release is just around the corner!  The name link above is active to the Scrapblocks™ page in the store.

2. The price points for each unmounted Scrapblock™ is $14.99 USD.

3. They are unmounted, deeply etched red rubber with cling mount backing.

4. The images are 6" square, making them the largest backgrounders available on the market.  Think of the versatility... especially when you consider cardmarker's addiction to 6x6 paper packs.

5. CHF also created a unique clear Acrylic block for use Scrapblocks™.  There wasn't an acrylic block available on the market for images of this size.  The unique feature of the block are the pinch point corners, since most of us do not have hand-spans that can hold a 6.25" block.  Scrapblocks™ can be used with the acrylic block or on their own.

6. The acrylic blocks are wonderful and versatile (perfect for your other backgrounders too) and at a price point of $19.99 USD.

Bad Blogger!

Oh my word!  I've been such a bad blogger lately!  I'm SO Sorry!  We went on vacation and then I had a million things to do (that of course, didn't get done when I was away).

Holly at Hog Wild About Stamping tagged me, so I thought I'd post that today... to get me back in the blogging swing of things.

Ten years ago: I was a relatively new mom.  My daughter was born in January of 1998...  she was a ball that summer; crawling, playing, and smiling!


Five things in today’s 'to do list':


1. Upload pictures to my gallery... which I've been neglecting lately.
2. Write another blog post for the CHF Challenge tomorrow.
3. Figure out dinner... unless I can talk my family into pizza from Racconelli's around the corner.
    They have seriously yummy New York style pizza!
4. Read the news on the CHF Forum and stop by the gallery for a little commenting...
5. Make my lunch for work tomorrow.  Bummer.  Monday's are awful.


Five Snacks I enjoy:


1. Popcorn
2. Pretzels
3. Chips and salsa.
4. Ice cream - of ANY kind.  I have a serious addiction here.
5. Dry Cheerios from the box.


Things I would do if I was a millionaire:


1. Pay off debt and quit my day job so I could do what I love... stamp!
2. Hire someone to clean my house.
3. See that my family was taken care of too
4. Invest.
5. Donate and volunteer.

I truly can't help but smile at this new product line. The list of ways to use the 6x6 Scrapblocks™ is amazing. Scrapbooking, large and square cards, altered items, mini albums, and custom embellishments are just a few of those things. The list goes on and on.

I love making off-sized cards... not always the standard A2 and this is a perfect example. I created the card base from Iced Teal Prism cardstock and my Megabilities Long Scallop rectangles. I folded the cardstock and aligned the top of the die with my fold, since I only wanted the sides to have scallops.

The length of this card is 6 inches. Rather than trying to piece the background, I used the Fine Houndstooth Scrapblocks™ Rubber stamp and my Pool Adirondack dye ink to give the whole card the textile texture. I LOVE being able to do that! My sentiment is framed from the brackets from the Photo Op stamp set. I added a quick bright flower and a bit of ribbon to complete the card.

Paradise Found

I can tell I'm ready for a vacation... only a couple of weeks to go and I'll be lounging on a beach. I'm SO ready. I couldn't ask for better timing with this latest Kim Hughes set. I LOVE it!

Part of our tradition for our trip is to drive (14+ hours) to the Gulf Coast as a family. The whole crew caravans together... three cars of overly eager folks ready for the beach and sun. I always stock the car with snacks and treats for the kids - and of course, a new toy. The thrill for them is waking up in the car and exploring what I might have tucked into the pocket of the seat or in their book bags.

To adorn the kids bags, I made them custom luggage tags to mark their belongings... cause heaven knows their stuff has to be marked or they'll bicker. LOL! I made this one for Jack:

More Scrapblocks™

I have been so excited about this project!!!! I created it quickly in less than one evening and can't wait to add all the details, promising it to be a keepsake for years.

Remember the School Year:


I fell instantly in love with the blank books of black chipboard (This is called Abby's Blackboard Album) by Cosmo Cricket. My first thought when I saw it was that it reminded me of a chalkboard! The idea stuck in my head... so I created this remembrance of the school year for my kids. I plan to add their photos, pictures of the awards assemblies, spelling bee and family fun day. It will be a fantastic treasure!

I also used the Writing Paper Scrapblocks™ to carry the theme. Each page was stamped with Cotton White Stazon ink and the Writing Paper lines so I can journal and add my own details about the photos and mementos. Absolutely perfect!
