Latest Release at CHF

The Waiter is the newest release at Cornish Heritage Farms.  I thought the image was darling and had a blast coloring this one.

Friends:

I opted to use a London Fog (gray) Memento ink to stamp this image.  I really loved how it softened the lines of the image... because I thought using all black would be too harsh for the ice.  I colored this with Copics to match the reference art.

Then, in order to mimic the reference art, I used a copic multiliner pen to give definition to the character's eyes. Then, I used a black Sakura glaze pen to color the penguin - after completing the other coloring.  As a word of caution, do not color in the penguin with the glaze pen first and follow with Copic markers because it will damage your marker nib.

My NEW Favorite Things - Pure Innocence

Yes - it's true!  I'm in love!  I have finally caved and purchased a few of these darling little girls in the Pure Innocence stamp line and have been having a ton of fun creating with them.

Sending Well Wishes:

Isn't this little one sweet?  She seems so compassionate, taking care of her little bear.

I colored her with Copics, matching her to the Early Bird Cosmo Cricket paper.  I also had to give a try at making my own ribbon rose again... this time, because my ribbon was a bit thinner than the satin I used earlier in the week, I followed Ms. Julie's great technique HERE.  I felt like I was wearing more Fabri-Tac glue than my ribbon, but it worked.  Let's just not look too closely at this little rose, shall we.  I think I need to practice a bit.  Hah!!!

As a sidenote, I also purchased some Detail Blending Paper by Couture Cardstock from eclectic paperie.  This stuff rocks!  I felt like I had complete control of the markers and had great saturation.  I was SO happy with the results that I think this will be a go-to paper for my Copic colored projects.

CPS Sketch # 155 - Perfectly Pretty -- Take Two!

I loved the sketch and the fantastic ribbon this week at CPS... so much that I opted to make another project this week.

I've never tried my hand at ribbon roses before.  As soon as I saw all the gorgeous ribbon from Perfectly Pretty (and the length of pale pink satin ribbon in the package), I knew I was going to give it a try.  I twisted and stitched a length of wide satin ribbon (folded in half) to give me a big blossom.

Follow Your Bliss:

Since I didn't want to detract from the simply gorgeous ribbon, I added a simple stamped sentiment and a soft wreath.  I think this card is all about the texture.

CPS Sketch # 155 - Perfectly Pretty

CPS Sketch # 154 - Keep In Touch

I had so much fun with this week's Card Positioning Systems' sketch.  Pairing it with a card kit from Keep In Touch, I had a card put together in no time at all!

The kit from Keep In Touch had loads of vintage bits and pieces that were just perfect for this sketch.  I used a bit of the floral paper to jazz up the envelope too.  Super fast and fun!

Happy Valentine's Day!

I think I'm still in a little shock that it's even February.  It feels like we just put away the Christmas tree!  I have a couple sweet cards to share with you today.

Heart Love Notes:

I love shaped cards. I started with a 5" square card and penciled a quick heart along the edges. I used a scissors to trim and copied on a second card.

I created two similar cards for my kids Valentines this year... keeping it simple makes for a fun project, easy to duplicate and even more fun to give!

Valentine's Lotto Tickets:

And to add to the fun, I created a couple lotto tickets that the kids will LOVE!  They get to take a "chance" at a great prize.  Their cards have a "free" chore associated with them.  I don't think they'll mind one bit, getting a hall pass from a chore.

Guardian Castle Release

The detailed images of the Thomas Kinkade line used to scare me.  Truly they did.  But I was lured into how elegant the projects looked... how classic and timeless the scenes could be.

Releasing tomorrow is the Guardian Castle image in the Thomas Kinkade series at Cornish Heritage Farms.  The castle in the mountains reminds me of a fairy tale.

My Guardian:

I used a combination of copic markers and Prismacolor pencils to get a detailed and vibrant effect.

I truly enjoyed spending an evening coloring this image... Such a pleasure!  It's better than therapy.  I just wish stamping were less expensive than professional help.

CPS Sketch # 153 - Papertrey Inc. #2

I really loved the CPS Sketch # 153 that I had to create a second card.

Thanks for Everything:

I loved the simple flower and HAD to try a dimensional project.  In fact, as soon as I saw the image, I knew I'd go that route right away.  I used the paper tole technique, stamping multiples of the flower, coloring with copic markers and trimming to separate the petals.  I sprayed with water to allow me to shape the petals (and leaves) and heat set to dry in the shape I wanted.

For once, what I saw in my head translated to paper!  Hah!

I also airbrushed with my Copic Y32/Y38 to give that glow behind the flower.  And everything is layers of dimension.

CPS Sketch # 153 - Papertrey Inc.

Hello!  This is just a quick post with my sketch card for the week at Card Positioning Systems.  The sponsor this week is Papertrey Inc.  I'm just beginning to find out how addictive their images, paper and wonderful embellishments can be.  All I have to say is I'm going to be spending a lot of cash with PTI in the future!!!

OK.  So, without further ado - my first card for this sketch.

With Faith:

A few design notes on this card:

• I paper pieced the flower onto patterned paper.  I think this is a really wonderful and cohesive way of giving dimension.
• I repeated stamped the flower image with Versamark and embossed in clear on the white layer.  This isn't hugely obvious in the picture, but in real life, it's a subtle and elegant way to dress up a design.
• I scored a square around the main image.  I think this helps ground the image, as it's raised on dimensional tape, and give added interest to the simple card base.

Overall, I thought it was fitting for Papertrey, which (in my opinion) is the epitome of simple elegance!

JustRite Stampers Challenge

Having some new JustRite stamps in the house, I thought I'd participate in one of their weekly challenges... and as a bonus get organized!  You can see all the details of this week's challenge HERE for Crafty Calendars.  Since I was going to go out and buy a simple calendar anyway (but never got around to it because I'm really unorganized), this challenge was calling to me.

2010 Design Calendar:

I created and printed my own calendar from Microsoft Publisher in portrait view.  I chose a very simple design for the calendar so I would have plenty of space to write reminders about design team deadlines and publication calls.

The cover was created from two sheets of cardboard, trimmed to 8.75: x 11.25" (larger than a standard sheet of copy paper to completely cover the insides).  The cardboard was stolen from the backs of two large scrapbook paper pads I had on hand.  I covered all four sides (the inside and outside of the front and back covers) with Girl Friday cardstock.

To give my calendar a fitting title, I used the Times New Roman font.  The numbers, the flourishes, the D and C of the title were in 95 pt.  The rest of the letters were in 50 pt. for contrast.  I stamped in Black Soot Distress ink and then embossed with clear embossing powder.

With all that said, I couldn't be more pleased!  I am using the calendar every week.  I've tons of details added to my calendar and have found that I'm meeting deadlines.  It's a fantastic thing to be organized!!!

CPS Sketch # 152 - JustRite Stampers

This week's sponsor for the Card Positioning Systems sketch is JustRite Stampers.  This was the first time I'd used their stamps.  I was really pleased with how easy they were to use, how versatile the stampers were and how far a few fonts stretched my creativity.

Best Friend

There's a ton of texture with this project.  I'm not sure why, but I've been reaching for my embossing folders more often lately.  It fits in really well with the little portion of a piece of Hambly Screen Print clear cardstock that I'd been hoarding.  I carefully trimmed out one of the frames from the sheet to use as a focal point for the sweet sentiment from the Loving Thoughts Set.
