New Stamp of the Month at CHF

I think it the most crazy thing is that September is nearly over.  Really?  When did this happen?

I thought I'd share with you a preview of the newest stamp of the month at Cornish Heritage Farms, called The Pines, releasing on October 1st.

Merry Christmas:

Since I didn't get any Christmas cards sent last year, I thought I'd get an early jump on it this year.  I already have a stack of cards, neatly tucked away... all different from each other with their own charm and personality.  And while this image is not initially intended as a holiday image, it just shouted snowy winter day to me.

I inked the stamp with New Sprout Memento ink and added Bamboo Leaves and Cottage Ivy Memento inks around the edges to give a variance of color.  Since my colored Memento inks are in the dewdrop shape, it's really easy to do this.  If you have full size ink colors, you could use a stipple brush and paint the ink onto the image for even coverage.

Tip:  I'm a stamper that prefers to die-cut any shapes (like this Label or sentiment tag by Spellbinder) prior to stamping the image.  I align my image on my acrylic block and test a few times on scrap paper to ensure placement.  I know there are creative ways to hold the die in place to cut out an image neatly, but this is my successful route (and I have a low scrap rate)... so it's up to you what works best!

After I stamped the image, I used my Copic marker to add a bit of sky into the image. I kept it light... and it really reminds me of how the sky looks on a particularly cold day. I added COPIOUS amounts of Polar White Flower Soft. I think I went a little overboard, hmm? But, it really makes the image a holiday image, doesn't it? Yep - I thought so too!

Overall, a simple design. It has lots of texture to it and the merit of the image and sentiment speak for themselves.

Technique Talking about Shimmerz!

As promised, I'd like to share my last project with you using Shimmerz.  This has been a real treat using these glimmery, luscious paints!

Shimmery Happy Birthday:

This was such a quick project and one that you can customize to meet any occasion by just changing the color of Shimmerz paints.  I also think this worked perfectly with the Distressed Circle Scrapblock, because it's meant to be imperfect... on purpose.  I don't think I'd give this a go with something terribly intricate.

I used multiple colors for variation, which I LOVED.  The only hazard with this is... I can see myself needing a lot of Shimmerz paints.  Like all of them.  *gulp*

More Shimmerz

Of course, I couldn't just stop at one project with the new Shimmerz I received.  I have two more projects to share with you... so be sure to check back in here again on Friday (and a the CHF Forum) for the last one.

Historic Poster:

I love the vintage feel of the East-West Historic Poster image, paired with fun colors.  I embossed the image with detail black embossing powder.  I sprayed the entire image with Ruby Spritz.  While the paper was still wet, I painted in large swipes additional colors and let them blend.  The Sunflower Shimmerz paint turned into a lovely peach color when paired with the Ruby Spritz and Burgundy Shimmerz paint.

And if that wasn't enough glimmer, I embossed the Ornamental Vines backgrounder on the Razzleberry layer with clear embossing powder and lightly sprayed with Ruby Spritz (as they are a very close match in color).  I really loved the subtle effect with the over the top shimmer on the main image.

Technique:
-Emboss resist: After embossing the Historic Poster in black detail, I sprayed the entire piece of paper with Ruby Spritz. Then, while still wet, I used a brush to add Burgundy and Sunflower in sweeping strokes to give variegated color.

It's all about the Shimmerz Blog Hop!

Today, the Cornish Heritage Farm design team is sharing projects that are all about the shimmer!  Even more specific, Shimmerz!  These little pots of paint are so dazzling.  The Shimmerz and CHF teams swapped products and oh, what a lovely combination...

Shimmery Poppy Pair:

This project was so easy to paint.  I first embossed the image with black detail embossing powder.  This helped me keep the paint where I wanted it.  Then, over time, I built up multiple layers of the paint to give a vibrant darker color.  The image was solely colored with Shimmerz paints.

I do have to apologize for the way the picture looks a bit wonky (very technical term here).  I think it's because I was getting a bit of reflection from all that shine from the paints that it looks that way. And... it's just dazzling in real life!

Paper Bead Technique

I am a terrible blogger... but, I have been stamping.  In fact, I have a technique to share with you at the Cornish Heritage Farm forum.  It's fun and different... and perfect for scraps of paper you might have around.

Paper Beads:

The technique requires only a few supplies... stamps, cardstock, ink, glue... and wire or other jewelry findings to make whatever your heart desires.

Here's a close up of the beads.  I used the Vintage Text Scrapblock for my cell phone strap... irony, yes?

Still Life Painting

I've always wanted to take a formal painting class - to study paint properties, shadow and light...

And yet, with stamps as the baseline, it's possible to paint a still life with convincing artistry!

Harbor Scene Stamp of the Month

It's so amazing to me that July is almost half through!  Of course, it helped that my family and I spent a week of it on the beach.  I highly recommend beach laziness as a way to pass some summer time.  It was tough coming back (and not just because it's a 13 hour drive).  Whew!

I thought I'd share a quick card with you and a note about the stamp itself.

Harbor Scene

This Harbor Scene stamp is the Stamp of the Month at CHF.   The image is lovely, isn't it?  I loved the reflections in the water... so when I colored the image, I used lighter tones of the colors of my main images, to shimmer on the water.

Challenge Blog Hoppin'

CHF has a fantastic Summer Stamp Star Design Challenge coming... All the details can be found here. To get the ball rolling, the CHF Designers thought we'd all try our hand at the challenge techniques...

The challenge I decided to take on was the One Sheet Wonder technique. It's a fast and fabulous way of creating your own patterned paper - and super economical. I have to admit that it's been ages since I've done this technique, so I tossed my hand in the ring for this one. In fact, this was a favorite technique of mine as a new stamper. And then... I found Basic Grey... I was never to look back! ;-)

Stinkin' Cute!

Seriously... how cute is this background?! I repetitively stamped the bamboo to make a background forest. I colored each image and shaded with copic markers. The frame around my little panda is a wooden piece from We R Memory Keepers and the shape of the design on it reminded me of the leaves of the bamboo...
